          Tight Like That

Tight Like That is a powerhouse, three- piece blues-based combo that rocks out on Chicago and Delta- style Blues with a frisson of good old Rockabilly to spice up the mix.

Some Background

In the summer of 2004, guitarist Günter Ott was performing as a solo artist in Toronto, having recently dissolved his heavy driving Blues Rock band MOJO HAND. Ott wanted to develop a bigger, more rounded sound to capture the nuances of the blues. He reunited with the bass player from his former band to perform a gig at the Parkdale Multi-Cultural Festival in Toronto and the two liked the direction the sound was heading.

Soon Günter found a hot young harp player and a veteran drummer to energize the band and started rehearsing songs that reflected his love of Delta and Chicago blues along with a bit of Rockabilly to spice things up.

The band – Tight Like That – currently features Lee Matrosov on bass and vocals; Bob Fitzgerald on drums; and Günter Ott on guitar and lead vocals. Occasionally they feature guest appearances by local harp and keyboard players to round out the sound.

As a three piece comboTight Like That lays down a strong groove and a lot of danceable licks to integrate the various kinds of roots music into an entertaining, toe-tapping, rocking whole. The group likes to perform at intimate clubs and events where audiences can appreciate their earthy down-home style of blues combined with bouncy Memphis style Rockabilly and rootsy arrangements of songs from a wide range of styles. But in larger gigs and outdoors events they delight in cranking up and cutting loose to provide good time party music.

TIGHT LIKE THATis:

Günter Ott, Guitar, Lead Vocals – Contact: 416 537-6027

From managing a trippy trio in the psychedelic ‘60s to performing soulful acoustic arrangements of classic Delta blues songs, Günter Ott has been deeply involved in the music scene as a writer, editor, photographer and musician. His earlier band MOJO HAND played the Toronto bar scene as a six-piece blues-rock band.

Later he began writing his own material and performed as a solo, duo or trio at restaurants, coffee houses and events such as the Parkdale Multicultural Festival. Now, having formed TIGHT LIKE THAT, he sings and plays guitar on songs ranging from Robert Johnson Delta Blues to Howlin’ Wolf to Jerry Lee Lewis and even The Monkees.

Favourite musicians include Howlin’ Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor and Jimmy Reed. When not playing the blues, Günter photographs other blues musicians, buys and sells antiques, and edits magazines for a living.

Lee Matrosov  Bass, Vocals

Lee played in a folk duo during university and later joined the band MOJO HAND as bassist. He currently plays a driving bass for TIGHT LIKE THAT, and sings a few of his favourite blues tunes. Lee likes the music of the Allman Brothers, gospel and John Lee Hooker. When not playing the blues, Lee prefers spending time with his new family.

Bob Fitzgerald, Drums, Backup Vocals

Bob has played with a number of bands and been a blues enthusiast since the sixties. He brings a rocksteady, driving Chicago beat to anchor the band. Favourite musicians include Ginger Baker and John Bonham. When not travelling on business, Bob likes to stay at home with his family and dog – and sometimes gets called to act as roadie for his two sons who are also budding musicians in Mississauga.
